Food and Travel Writing Workshop with Anubhuti Krishna

October Dates: 9-10th October and 23-24th October

Every once in a while a young, to not so young aspiring writer reaches out to me for help. It is mostly on Social media or email and I almost always reply too — in whatever way I can. Writing however is a long and subjective topic, it is impossible to become a writer based on one email interaction or an Instagram DM. It needs time and practice.

Which is why I decided to hold writing workshops some time ago. And I am glad too say that almost all of my 35 students so far have found value in the course and many have already published their first freelance story. Many others are writing regularly and dare I say prolifically and it makes me so proud of them.

It may seem daunting to take the first step towards writing but it is not that hard. In the workshop I try to help you with the basics of freelance writing and help you build confidence to get started with a freelance career. With crucial tips on how to ideate content, network with clients and pitch to publications, this course you will help you get started o your journey to write.

Since many participants wanted shorter classes focussing only on one topic, I have split the 4-day class into two 2-day classes. And you can join both if you want to learn both Travel and Food. The workshops are scheduled conveniently over two weekends to ensure everyone can attend.

Feedback for previous sessions:

It has allowed me to approach my writing with a sense of clarity and given it a definite direction. – Anupama Vijaykumar

I found the pitching session the best and most helpful. I thought your honesty about choosing this field and how to go about was great – like not trying to give a rosy picture just because you can. instead the fact that you shared the real deal. It is a perspective I am sure very few of us would otherwise have on the industry and am glad I know now. Sreetama Sen.

What worked well for me was that there were so many practical aspects covered like pitching, style of writing, how is the industry doing and the more administrative ones as well. For a total beginner like me, it really helped structure my thoughts and have a plan for myself. I liked the way the course was structured- first the writing itself and then pitching, commercials etc. Richa Chitgopekar

Structure, clarity of thought and all the exercises. I sometimes struggle with where to begin the work itself. How to think about writing. Writing can happen but there has to be a starting point which is where I often come to a full stop. The homework for each was definitely helpful. Also, a renewed spirit in documenting my mother’s recipes. Pavithra Dixit
